Heritage Barnwood Shop Lead/Direct Support Professional (Cambridge, MN)
Position Overview:
Heritage Barnwood, a unique vocational program operated by PHASE-Industries, is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic team member to join our woodshop program in Cambridge, MN. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about hands-on work, creative carpentry, and empowering individuals with disabilities to build valuable life and employment skills.
The Direct Support Paraprofessional (DSP) assigned to the Heritage Barnwood program provides direct care, skill development, and vocational training to program participants. Responsibilities include supporting individuals with health, safety, rights protection, and skill-building activities as outlined in individual service plans and in compliance with 245D regulations.
Program Description:
Heritage Barnwood offers a distinctive employment experience for participants by repurposing reclaimed wood from deconstructed barns, sheds, and other donated structures. Our organization is fully licensed and insured to perform structural teardowns. The salvaged materials are transformed into handcrafted wood products, which participants sell at our location, local markets and craft shows.
This program teaches participants a wide range of transferable skills including carpentry, retail operations, woodworking, demolition, wood finishing, painting, and wood burning—empowering individuals to pursue future opportunities in community-integrated employment.
Essential Tools and Skills Used in the Program:
· Carpentry skills including but not limited to the safe use and maintenance of all wood shop equipment and the following tools:
· Communication and coaching skills allowing clients to participate in all processes
· Communication of inventory and maintenance needs to the wood products lead
· Willingness to participate in the development of new product ideas
· Experience in the safe demolition of barns and reclamation of material
While prior experience using these tools is preferred, we are willing to train the right candidate who demonstrates carpentry knowledge, enthusiasm, reliability, and a strong interest in working in a dynamic, hands-on environment. An appreciation for sawdust and creativity is always a plus!
